Sweetwater County Start-Ups Receive Seed Funding

SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Sweetwater County Commission will have its first meeting at its new 9 a.m. start time Tuesday.

The Commission previously decided to move the meetings from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. to allow for more people to travel to the Sweetwater County Courthouse in Green River from other communities.

During the meeting, the Commission will hear an update on the Sweetwater County Innovation Launchpad (SCIL) finalists that all received seed funding for their start-ups through the University of Wyoming program, IMPACT 307. IMPACT 307 offers help for start-up businesses across Wyoming.

The SCIL was launched in April 2022, in which 28 start-ups applied for the seed funding. Sixteen of those applicants were invited to participate in the bootcamp stage. From that, nine start-ups were chosen as semi-finalists before being narrowed down to six that received seed funding.

The six finalists include: Wyoming Apparatus, High Desert Technology LLC, Wild Sage Market, Shop Dog Custom, GM Valley Processing, and Meridical Health Solutions.

According to the IMPACT 307 website, SCIL is supported through the University of Wyoming’s IMPACT 307, Western Wyoming Community College, Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce, and numerous local community partners.

The website goes on to say, “The Sweetwater County Innovation Launchpad seeks to catalyze innovative and scalable Wyoming startup businesses and provide the opportunity to apply for seed money to take the business past concept stage and into real-world first article builds and initial sales. The competition is also open to early stage businesses which will propel significant growth in Wyoming’s economic ecosystem.”

The target size for the seed fund was between $25K to $60K, which the six finalists all received a portion of.
